How to judge a card holder
Look at the slot linings first. This is where cost gets cut, because nobody photographs the inside of a card slot. The leather should continue into the slot rather than stopping at a fabric or bonded backing. Pull a slot gently open and look at the underside of the lip.
Then the edges. A finished edge has been sanded, sealed and either burnished or hand-painted in thin layers. A single thick coat of paint will crack and peel within a year. Run a fingernail along it: it should feel integral, not like a coating sitting on top.
